March 2026 - Following a successful applicatiion to the Duchy of Lancaster earlier in the year, the group have been able to replant one of the parks historic borders.

Ian Wilkinson, Chair of Friends of Memorial Park said "We are thrilled to have the suppport of the Council and the Trustees of the Duchy of Lancashire to carry out this work..  It has enabled us to replant one of the park flower beds at the top of the park.  23 volunteers from FoMP and Lancashire Police Cadets joined forces to complete the work on Saterday 21st March 2026 in less than 2 hrs.  This followed some  clearance and preparatioin works by the Council's parks ground staff the previous month for which we are most grateful"

The border was last p-lanted by 17 FoMP volunteers in September 2011 when 135 mixed Azalea bushes were planted..  Sadly over the years some of the original plants have not survived and this project has allowed us to plant 60 new shrubs, some of which are replacements, and some to extend the bed further along the park border.
